Last week, SAP approved certification of i18n Translation Manager for SAP S/4HANA. This makes our add-on the first translation solution to be certified for SAP S/4HANA. We couldn’t be happier and are very grateful to SAP for their commitment to partners like us.
SAP Certification – A Major Milestone
i18n Translation Manager for SAP S/4HANA was released last fall. But as the 3.02 version number indicates, earlier iterations of the tool have been in use by our customers for awhile – since 2019, in fact. SAP certification is a milestone for us, something we’ve worked towards for at least two years. The tool already has a significant installed base, but without SAP certification, some doors remained closed for us – until now.
SAP’s approval will enable wider adoption among organizations whose policies only permit them to use SAP-certified solutions. Some of our customers have been asking us about an S/4-certified translation tool for a while, when there simply wasn’t one on the market. We’re delighted to now offer the first SAP S/4HANA certified add-on for translating SAP texts.
What Does This Add-on Do?
It’s not as if we haven’t extensively discussed the most important features of the tool before. But here’s the elevator pitch:
If you’ve extended your SAP S/4HANA system in any way – by developing Z Fiori apps, SAP GUI transactions, or forms, through Customizing, or by using SAP enhancement frameworks – i18n Translation Manager lets you to translate all the texts you’ve created along the way. Our add-on enables you to identify exactly the texts you need to translate and manages the entire translation process. You can check out the texts you want to translate to your preferred translation environment, and then check in the translated texts. You can add the translations to transport requests or commit them to Git repositories.
In short, if you are deploying SAP to another country and you want your users to log on in another language, you need our add-on.
From the Modern to the Ancient
Back in the heyday of SAP ECC, there were a number tools available to assist you with translating your SAP texts – but most never added support for modern development methodologies, let alone for SAP S/4HANA. i18n Translation Manager took the opposite approach. It was developed for SAP S/4HANA and supported translation of SAP Fiori apps right from the start. The add-on does also runs on SAP ECC systems, but customers running releases older than SAP S/4HANA 2020 do not have access to all of its features.
With i18n Translation Manager, you can translate apps developed using state-of-the-art methodology, such as the RESTful ABAP Programming model. It supports texts created using the Custom Fields app, Fiori Launchpad texts, and even enables translation of apps developed using a side-by-side approach. But texts created using older enhancement methods are supported too, such as BAdIs or Customer Exits. Of course, Customizing texts are supported as well, along with Smartforms, Adobe PDF forms, SAPscript-based texts, or almost any other text you can create in an SAP system.
Certified for What, Exactly?
i18n Translation Manager is certified for SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition 2023. On this release, it runs as a full add-on and can be installed and uninstalled using transaction SAINT. On SAP S/4HANA 2020-2022, it can be installed by importing a transport request, but offers the same functionality as on 2023. For older releases, we provide a version that supports systems on SAP Basis or higher, though it lacks a few features. We do have quite a few customers running the tool on SAP ERP EHP7 and EHP8.
